Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh broccoli
  • 4 cups fresh cauliflower
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon basil
  • 2 cups mayonnaise
  • 1 pound bacon, crumbled
  • 1 large head lettuce, bite-sized pieces
  • 2 cups seasoned croutons
  • 8 ounces sliced water chestnuts

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, break broccoli and cauliflower into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Add sliced onion to the bowl.
  3. In a small bowl, combine sugar, Parmesan cheese, salt, basil, and mayonnaise.
  4. Mix the dressing well until smooth.
  5. Toss the vegetables with the dressing until evenly coated.
  6. Refrigerate the salad overnight to allow flavors to meld.
  7. Just before serving, add crumbled bacon, seasoned croutons, and sliced water chestnuts.
  8. Toss lightly to combine all ingredients.
