  • 1/4 c. margarine
  • 2/3 to 3/4 c. milk
  • 1 c. peeled, sliced peaches
  • 2 Tbsp. soft margarine

Instructions

  2. Cut in margarine until mixture is crumbly, then add milk to make a soft dough.
  3. Place dough on a cutting board and knead gently for 30 seconds.
  4. Divide dough in half and roll each half into a rectangle approximately 6 x 8 inches and about 1/4 inch thick.
  5. Cut each rectangle into 4 smaller rectangles, approximately 6 x 3 inches.
  6. Place slices of peaches on half of each rectangle, dot with soft margarine, and sprinkle with sugar.
  7. Fold the filled rectangles over and pinch the edges to seal the turnovers.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 18 minutes until golden brown.

Tips & Substitutions

For a flakier turnover, consider using cold butter instead of margarine. You can substitute fresh peaches with canned or frozen peaches, but ensure they are well-drained. If you're out of baking powder, make a substitute with 1/2 tsp baking soda and 1 tsp vinegar or lemon juice. Dust with powdered sugar for a sweet finish.

Serving Suggestions

Serve peach turnovers warm for the best texture, possibly with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side for a delightful contrast. They also pair beautifully with a cup of coffee or tea. For a full meal, consider serving alongside a fresh salad, like Mac Salad, to balance the sweetness.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftover peach turnovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. For longer storage, refrigerate for up to a week. To reheat, place them in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes until warmed through and crispy again.
