Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup pecan halves
  • 2/3 cup butter

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, 1 cup brown sugar, and 1/2 cup softened butter in a large bowl. Beat for 2 to 3 minutes.
  2. Pat the mixture evenly onto the bottom of an ungreased 13 x 9-inch baking pan.
  3. Sprinkle pecan halves over the crumb mixture.
  4. Combine 2/3 cup butter and remaining 1/2 cup brown sugar in a saucepan. Cook and stir over medium heat until bubbly.
  5. Pour the caramel mixture into the pan, spreading evenly over the crust.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 18 to 20 minutes.
  7. Remove from oven and sprinkle with chocolate pieces.
  8. Let stand for 2 to 3 minutes until the chocolate melts.
  9. Use a knife to swirl the melted chocolate into the topping.
