Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1/2 c. warm water
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. butter or shortening
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg
  • 3 to 3 1/4 c. flour

Instructions

  1. Soften yeast in warm water.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, butter, salt, and hot water; stir until sugar is dissolved. Cool to lukewarm.
  3. Stir in egg and yeast.
  4. Add 2 cups of flour and beat on medium speed for two minutes in an electric mixer.
  5. Stir in the remaining flour.
  6. The softer the dough, the lighter the rolls. Beat with a spoon for three minutes or until dough is smooth.
  7. Cover and let rise in a warm place until dough doubles in size. Punch down.
  8. Cover tightly and refrigerate overnight or shape into rolls for baking.
