Ingredients

  • 1 package yeast
  • 1/4 cup hot water
  • 2 1/2 cups plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup shredded mild Cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons sugar

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast in hot water.
  2. Add half of the flour, then the egg, sugar, salt, soda, and sour cream. Blend for 30 seconds on low speed, then 2 minutes on high speed with a mixer.
  3. Stir in the remaining flour, shredded cheddar cheese, and black pepper.
  4. Divide the dough evenly into two well-greased 1-pound coffee cans.
  5. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour and 45 minutes.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 40 minutes.
