Ingredients

  • 3 cups plus 2 tablespoons plain flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon butter flavor
  • 1 tablespoon chocolate flavor
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup sour cream

Instructions

  1. Sift together the plain flour, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder.
  2. Cream the butter at high speed for 3 minutes.
  3. Gradually add the sugar, 1 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Beat the eggs in individually, mixing for 3 minutes after each addition.
  5. Add vanilla, butter flavor, chocolate flavor, and peppermint extract; mix well.
  6. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture alternately with the milk and sour cream, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
  7. Beat the mixture for 4 minutes until smooth.
  8. Pour the batter into a waxed paper-lined tube pan.
  9. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 75 to 90 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Cool the cake in the pan for 5 minutes before removing.
