Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 lb ground chuck
  • 4 large onions
  • 1 can tomato soup
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • some milk
  • 3 slices white bread
  • salt
  • pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare hamburgs the day before a picnic, then heat and serve the next day.
  2. Sauté 1 tablespoon chopped onion and add to the ground chuck.
  3. Moisten the slices of white bread in milk and add to the meat mixture.
  4. Mix the meat, onions, and bread until well combined and form into patties.
  5. Sauté sliced onions and remove from the pan.
  6. Fry the hamburger patties and remove from the pan.
  7. Add tomato soup and cream of mushroom soup with 1 1/2 cans of water, then heat for 5 minutes.
  8. In a slow cooker, layer the hamburger patties, sautéed onions, and soup mixture alternately.
  9. Refrigerate the slow cooker contents overnight, covered.
  10. Next day, heat the mixture about 1 hour until hot, then serve on hamburger rolls with sauce.
