- Prepare hamburgs the day before a picnic, then heat and serve the next day.
- Sauté 1 tablespoon chopped onion and add to the ground chuck.
- Moisten the slices of white bread in milk and add to the meat mixture.
- Mix the meat, onions, and bread until well combined and form into patties.
- Sauté sliced onions and remove from the pan.
- Fry the hamburger patties and remove from the pan.
- Add tomato soup and cream of mushroom soup with 1 1/2 cans of water, then heat for 5 minutes.
- In a slow cooker, layer the hamburger patties, sautéed onions, and soup mixture alternately.
- Refrigerate the slow cooker contents overnight, covered.
- Next day, heat the mixture about 1 hour until hot, then serve on hamburger rolls with sauce.
