Ingredients

  • 1 box raisins
  • 2 sticks margarine
  • 3 cups water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda

Instructions

  1. Boil raisins, water, and margarine together for 10 minutes.
  2. Sift together flour, sugar, salt, nutmeg, cloves, allspice, and cinnamon.
  3. Dissolve baking soda in lukewarm water.
  4. Add the baking soda mixture to the raisin mixture and stir well.
  5. Combine the wet mixture with the sifted dry ingredients by hand.
  6. Pour the batter into a nongreased tube cake pan.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 50 to 60 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
