Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use canned tomatoes for this recipe?

While fresh tomatoes are recommended for the best flavor, you can use canned tomatoes in a pinch. Just ensure they are well-drained to avoid excess moisture in your chow-chow. Adjust the seasoning as needed since canned tomatoes can be more acidic.

How long can I store the chow-chow?

When properly canned and sealed, chow-chow can last for up to a year in a cool, dark pantry. Once opened, it should be refrigerated and consumed within 2-3 weeks. Always check for signs of spoilage before using.

Can I add other vegetables to the chow-chow?

Absolutely! Feel free to experiment with other vegetables such as carrots, zucchini, or even green beans. Just remember that the balance of flavors is key, so adjust the sugar and vinegar accordingly to maintain the desired taste.
