- Cover the peeled and cubed potatoes and minced onions with water in a large pot and bring to a boil.
- While the water heats, mix the egg, flour, salt, and pepper with a fork until the mixture forms pea-sized pieces to make rivels.
- Add the rivels to the boiling potatoes and stir immediately to prevent sticking.
- Cook for about 8 minutes until the rivels are cooked through.
- Add the milk and butter to the soup and continue stirring to prevent the rivels from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
- Simmer the soup for an additional 5 to 10 minutes while stirring occasionally until heated through and flavors meld.
