Ingredients

  • 8 to 10 peeled and cubed potatoes
  • 1 egg
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 1/2 stick butter
  • minced onions
  • flour

Instructions

  1. Cover the peeled and cubed potatoes and minced onions with water in a large pot and bring to a boil.
  2. While the water heats, mix the egg, flour, salt, and pepper with a fork until the mixture forms pea-sized pieces to make rivels.
  3. Add the rivels to the boiling potatoes and stir immediately to prevent sticking.
  4. Cook for about 8 minutes until the rivels are cooked through.
  5. Add the milk and butter to the soup and continue stirring to prevent the rivels from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
  6. Simmer the soup for an additional 5 to 10 minutes while stirring occasionally until heated through and flavors meld.
