Creamy, cheesy potato casserole with onions, perfect for family dinners or potlucks, offering comforting flavors and a satisfying texture.

Instructions
- In a deep casserole dish, melt 1/2 stick of margarine or butter.
- Layer sliced potatoes, chopped onion, and slices of American cheese in the dish, ending with a layer of cheese on top.
- Between each layer, sprinkle salt and pepper to taste.
- Pour the can of cream of mushroom soup over the layered ingredients.
- Place 6 slices of American cheese on top.
- Cover and bake until the potatoes are tender and bubbly, approximately 45 minutes.
