- Boil potatoes until done but still firm.
- Slice potatoes crosswise.
- Warm the cream of mushroom soup.
- Layer sliced potatoes in a casserole dish, dot with margarine, and season with salt and pepper on each layer.
- Pour warm mushroom soup over the layered potatoes.
- Optional: sprinkle shredded Cheddar cheese on top.
- Bake at 350°F until bubbly, about 30 minutes.
