Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. (1/4 oz.) active dry yeast
  • 1/3 cup plus 1 teaspoon sugar, divided
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water, divided
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup instant nonfat dry milk powder
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 5 1/2 to 6 cups all-purpose flour, divided

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, dissolve yeast and 1 teaspoon sugar in 1/2 cup warm water.
  2. Add melted butter, eggs, milk powder, salt, 3 cups flour, remaining sugar, and remaining water. Beat on medium speed for 3 minutes or until smooth.
  3. Stir in remaining flour to form soft dough.
  4. Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 6 to 8 minutes.
  5. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 1/2 hours.
  6. Punch dough down and divide into 27 pieces. Shape each into balls.
  7. Place 18 balls in a greased 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan and the remaining 9 balls in a greased 9-inch square baking pan.
  8. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 45 minutes.
  9. Bake at 375 degrees for 17 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Cool on wire racks.
