Ingredients

  • 2 c. butter Crisco
  • 4 c. sugar
  • 4 1/2 c. flour plain
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 7 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla flavoring

Instructions

  1. Cream the shortening and sugar together until well combined and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Mix salt and baking powder into the flour.
  4. Alternately add the flour mixture and milk to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with flour.
  5. Stir in vanilla, butter, and almond flavorings.
  6. Grease and flour a tube pan, then add a strip of foil to the top of the pan.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  8. Bake at 325°F (160°C) for 1 1/2 hours, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cake to cool slightly before removing from the pan.
