Ingredients

  • 3 c. cake flour
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 c. Crisco shortening
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 5 Tbsp. cocoa

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening, eggs, and sugar until well combined.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Sift together flour, salt, baking powder, and cocoa powder.
  4. Alternately add the dry ingredients and milk to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
  5. Add vanilla extract and mix thoroughly.
  6. Pour the batter into a tube pan.
  7. Bake at 325°F (160°C) for 1 hour and 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
