Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups buttermilk
  • 1/3 cup cream
  • 1 1/3 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup raisins
  • about 4 cups flour

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine buttermilk, cream, sugar, soda, beaten eggs, and salt until well blended.
  2. Gradually add flour, holding back some to adjust the dough consistency, and mix until a smooth batter forms.
  3. Stir in raisins evenly into the batter.
  4. Heat deep fat fryer to suitable frying temperature.
  5. Drop tablespoon-sized portions of batter into the hot oil.
  6. Fry until golden brown, turning as needed, approximately 3-4 minutes.
  7. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels before serving.
