- Press the mixture evenly onto the bottom of three greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans.
- In the same bowl, combine spice cake mix, pumpkin, 1/4 cup softened butter, and eggs.
- Beat at medium speed, scraping the bowl often, until well mixed, about 2 to 3 minutes.
- Spread 1 3/4 cups of batter over the crumb layer in each pan.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool for 5 minutes, then remove from pans.
- Cool completely before frosting or serving.
