Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/3 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup wheat bran
  • 1/2 cup small raisins
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup light molasses
  • 1 cup sour milk
  • 1/4 cup melted shortening

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, baking soda, salt, and baking powder together.
  2. Stir in wheat bran and raisins.
  3. Beat egg and sugar together; add molasses, sour milk, and melted shortening.
  4. Combine the wet ingredients with the dry mixture and stir until just blended.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased bread pan.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about an hour, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
