Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups Crisco
  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 teaspoons vanilla
  • 3/4 teaspoon soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 large bag chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine Crisco, brown sugar, and white sugar; mix well.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Stir in vanilla, soda, and salt until well blended.
  5. Gradually add flour, mixing until just combined.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips and chopped nuts if using.
  7. Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Remove from oven and let cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks.
