Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb oleo
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 tablespoons dark syrup
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • dash of pepper
  • 3 1/4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon anise oil

Instructions

  1. Cream the oleo and add sugar, then beat well.
  2. Add egg, dark syrup, and anise oil to the mixture.
  3. Sift together the flour, soda, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and pepper, then add to the wet mixture.
  4. Roll the dough into thin rolls and cut into 1/4-inch pieces with a sharp knife.
  5. Bake at 350°F until slightly brown, approximately 6 minutes.
