Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 2/3 c. warm water
  • 1 c. butter
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. milk
  • 2 c. flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. raisins

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (325°F if using glass pans).
  2. Mix yeast in warm water and let stand in warm place for 30 minutes or until mixture becomes light and frothy.
  3. Cream the butter; add sugar gradually and beat until fluffy.
  4. Set aside 1/8 cup of flour.
  5. Mix remaining flour, baking powder, spices, and salt.
  6. Add dry ingredients to butter mixture alternately with the milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
  7. Add the yeast mixture to the batter.
  8. Dredge raisins in the reserved 1/8 cup flour and stir into the batter.
  9. Spread batter in greased and floured loaf pans (two).
  10. Bake for about 50 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Remove from pans after 10 minutes and cool on racks.
