Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/3 cup hot water
  • 4 cups sifted flour
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 3/4 cup raisins
  • 1 cup butter
  • 3 eggs

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter until smooth.
  2. Add sugar and mix well.
  3. Beat the eggs and add them to the mixture.
  4. Dissolve the soda in hot water and add it to the mixture.
  5. Sift the flour, measure, and sift again.
  6. Reserve a little of the flour, as you may not need it all.
  7. Combine cinnamon, raisins, and chopped nuts with the flour mixture.
  8. Drop spoonfuls of the batter onto a baking sheet.
  9. Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 10 to 12 minutes.
  10. Try one cookie first and add more flour if necessary.
