Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup milk or orange juice
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup chopped pared apples
  • 1 cup finely chopped nuts
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 1/3 cups brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg together.
  2. Mix shortening, egg, and milk or orange juice until well combined.
  3. Add half of the flour mixture to the bowl, then incorporate the raisins, nuts, and chopped apples.
  4. Drop heaping teaspoonfuls of the mixture onto a greased cookie sheet.
  5. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 8 to 10 minutes until golden brown.
