- Preheat oven to 450°F.
- Peel potatoes to a uniform size.
- Cut each potato into 1/4-inch slices starting from one end, stopping 1/4-inch from the bottom so slices remain attached.
- Place potatoes with sliced side up into a well-greased baking dish.
- Sprinkle with salt and pepper; dot with pieces of butter.
- Bake for 20 minutes, basting occasionally with butter in the pan.
- Mix grated Parmesan cheese and dry bread crumbs together.
- Sprinkle generously between the potato slices and over the top.
- Bake another 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown and tender.
