Rea Beans is a hearty, sweet and savory baked bean dish with bacon, onions, and a rich ketchup and sugar glaze, perfect for family dinners or potlucks.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb bacon
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup catsup
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 2 teaspoons vinegar
  • 1 can butter beans
  • 1 can lima beans
  • 2 cans pork and beans
  • 1 can kidney beans

Instructions

  1. Fry the bacon until crispy; drain all but 1 tablespoon of the bacon grease.
  2. In the bacon grease, fry the chopped onion until clear.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the catsup, brown sugar, white sugar, salt, dry mustard, and vinegar.
  4. Drain the butter beans, lima beans, pork and beans, and kidney beans.
  5. Combine the cooked bacon and onion, drained beans, and the ketchup mixture in a baking dish.
  6. Bake at 325°F (160°C) for 1 hour.
