Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar
  • 5 tablespoons salad oil

Instructions

  1. Stir the sifted flour, cocoa, sugar, baking soda, and salt into an 8-inch square pan.
  2. Make three depressions in the dry ingredients.
  3. Pour vinegar into one depression, vanilla into another, and salad oil into the third.
  4. Gradually add water and mix well until smooth.
  5. Bake in a moderate oven (350°F) for 35 minutes.
  6. Allow to cool, then frost or serve with ice cream and chocolate sauce.
