Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/3 cup cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup sour milk
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 cup hot water

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening with sugar until very light.
  2. Add egg and beat well.
  3. Alternate adding dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, cocoa) with sour milk and vanilla.
  4. At the very end, add hot water all at once and mix thoroughly.
  5. Pour batter into cupcake liners and bake at 350°F for 19 minutes.
