Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup margarine or butter, melted
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/2 cup nuts, chopped (if desired)
  • Sweetened whipped cream
  • Chocolate, shaved (if desired)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Grease and flour an 8-inch round pan with 1 1/2-inch sides.
  3. Mix all ingredients except whipped cream and chocolate until well combined.
  4. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan.
  5. Bake for about 35 minutes or until the top appears dry.
  6. Cool the cake in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove from pan and cool completely.
  7. Top with sweetened whipped cream and shaved chocolate before serving.
  8. Refrigerate any remaining cake.
