- Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C).
- Melt margarine in a 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
- Spread uncooked rice evenly around in the dish.
- Layer diced raw squash over the rice.
- Sprinkle diced onion over the squash.
- Add salt and pepper evenly over the ingredients.
- Mix the cream of mushroom soup with water and pour over the mixture.
- Cover the dish with foil.
- Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
- Remove from oven, uncover, sprinkle grated cheese on top.
- Return to the oven for an additional 10 minutes until cheese melts.
