Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 cups rye flour
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup butter, softened
  • 6-8 tablespoons cold water
  • fennel seeds

Instructions

  1. Combine all purpose flour, rye flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl.
  2. Cut in softened butter with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal.
  3. Sprinkle cold water evenly over the mixture; stir with a fork until all dry ingredients are moistened.
  4. Shape the dough into a ball.
  5. Roll the dough to 1/8 inch thickness on a lightly floured surface.
  6. Cut the dough into 1 1/2 inch diamonds.
  7. Place the cut dough on ungreased baking sheets.
  8. Sprinkle lightly with fennel seeds.
  9. Bake at 375°F for 12 to 14 minutes or until golden brown.
