Ingredients

  • 2 c. boiling water
  • 2 c. quick rolled oats
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 1/2 c. molasses
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 1/2 c. warm water
  • 2 eggs

Instructions

  1. Pour boiling water over oats and cool to lukewarm.
  2. Add butter, salt, molasses, and dissolved yeast to the oats mixture.
  3. Mix in the eggs and gradually add the flour, adding more if necessary.
  4. Knead the dough for 10 minutes on a floured board.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled in size.
  6. Shape the dough into 2 loaves, spread tops with butter, and lightly sprinkle with oats.
  7. Cover and let rise again until doubled in size.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 40 to 45 minutes.
