Tips & Substitutions

For best results, ensure your yeast is fresh and active; proof it by checking if it bubbles in lukewarm water. If you don't have butter, you can substitute with oleo or margarine. For a sweeter flavor, consider adding a dash of vanilla extract. If the dough is too sticky, sprinkle a little extra flour while kneading. This Sally Lunn can also be made into smaller rolls for a different presentation.

Serving Suggestions

Sally Lunn is delightful served warm with butter or jam. It pairs beautifully with a Honey Cream Fruit Bowl for a refreshing breakfast. Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use instant yeast instead of active dry yeast?

Yes, you can substitute instant yeast for active dry yeast. Use the same amount, but there's no need to proof instant yeast in water; simply mix it into your dry ingredients. This can save you some time and still yield a fluffy Sally Lunn.

What can I do if my dough doesn't rise?

If your dough doesn't rise, it may be due to inactive yeast or a cold environment. Ensure your yeast is fresh and try placing the dough in a warmer area. You can also try adding a bit of warmth to your water and milk when initially mixing the ingredients.

Can I add flavors to the dough?

Absolutely! You can enhance the flavor of your Sally Lunn by adding ingredients like lemon zest, cinnamon, or nutmeg to the flour mixture. If you enjoy a fruity taste, consider folding in dried fruits or chocolate chips before the final rise for a delicious twist.
