Ingredients

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 Tbsp. grated orange rind
  • 2 1/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. soda
  • 3/4 c. water
  • 1/4 c. orange juice

Instructions

  1. Mix 1 cup sugar, butter and orange rind in bowl.
  2. Beat 5 minutes.
  3. Sift flour, baking powder, soda and salt and add alternately with orange juice and water.
  4. Beat egg whites until frothy and add 1/2 cup sugar.
  5. Beat until stiff.
  6. Fold in cake batter.
  7. Bake in layers for 30 to 35 minutes at 350°.
