A hearty, savory beef stew with tender chunks of round steak, flavored with onions, vinegar, and herbs, perfect for comforting family dinners or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 3 medium onions, diced
  • 3 Tbsp. fat
  • 2 or 3 lb. round steak
  • 3 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. cloves
  • 1/4 tsp. thyme
  • 3 bouillon cubes

Instructions

  1. Brown the diced onions in fat if necessary.
  2. Cut the round steak into cubes and brown in the same pan.
  3. Mix the dry ingredients (flour, salt, pepper, cloves, thyme) and sprinkle over the meat.
  4. Dissolve the bouillon cubes in hot water and add to the pan along with vinegar and catsup.
  5. Stir until well blended, then cover the pan.
  6. Simmer for 1 1/2 hours until the meat is tender. If using canned meat, reduce simmering time accordingly.
