Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup sesame seed
  • 1 cup margarine
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar packed
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped or ground nuts
  • 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate pieces

Instructions

  1. Toast sesame seed in a 350°F oven for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  2. Cream butter and brown sugar until well combined.
  3. Add egg and vanilla to the creamed mixture and mix well. Stir in chopped or ground nuts.
  4. Sift flour with cinnamon, allspice, and nutmeg, then add to the creamed mixture. Mix thoroughly.
  5. Spread the dough ¼-inch thick onto a 13 x 15-inch baking sheet.
  6. Bake at 350°F for 20 minutes.
  7. While baking, melt semi-sweet chocolate pieces in a double boiler over hot water.
  8. Spread melted chocolate evenly over the hot baked cookies.
  9. Sprinkle toasted sesame seed on top while still warm.
  10. Cut into bars while warm. Yield approximately 48 bars.
