Ingredients

  • 2 sticks oleo
  • 1 cup water
  • 5 tablespoons cocoa
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda

Instructions

  1. Bring oleo, water, and cocoa to a rolling boil.
  2. Sift together in a separate bowl the sugar, flour, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, beat together eggs, buttermilk, vanilla, baking powder, and baking soda.
  4. Add the boiled mixture and the dry mixture to the egg mixture, and mix well.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased and floured cookie sheet pan (11 1/2 x 17 1/2 x 1-inch).
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 to 25 minutes.
