Ingredients

  • 1 large onion
  • 1 box okra or 1 can cut okra, drained
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 pound uncooked shrimp, peeled and cleaned
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 12 oysters with liquid
  • 1 (19 oz.) can tomatoes
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 teaspoons gumbo file
  • cooked rice
  • 1 sweet red pepper, chopped

Instructions

  1. Cook the onion and red pepper in butter for 2 to 3 minutes.
  2. Add the flour and brown lightly.
  3. Add water, tomatoes, and gumbo file. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes.
  4. Add okra, shrimp, and oysters. Simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.
  5. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Serve over cooked rice.
