Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • milk

Instructions

  1. Sift dry ingredients together in a bowl.
  2. Put melted butter in a cup, add the egg, then add milk until it slops over the top of the cup.
  3. Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and beat well.
  4. Divide the batter evenly into two greased 8-inch pans.
  5. Bake at 375° to 400°F for 25 to 30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
