Ingredients

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. sour milk or buttermilk
  • 1 c. fresh mashed potatoes
  • 5 Tbsp. melted lard
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 1/2 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

  1. Dissolve sugar in sour milk or buttermilk, then add the hot mashed potatoes.
  2. Add melted lard, eggs, and vanilla flavoring to the mixture.
  3. Sift flour together with baking powder, soda, salt, and nutmeg.
  4. Roll the dough to 1/2-inch thickness, cut into doughnut shapes.
  5. Fry the doughnuts in deep oil until golden brown.
