Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup margarine
  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine melted margarine, 1 cup sugar, and molasses.
  2. Beat in the egg until smooth.
  3. In a separate bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, salt, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, and ground ginger.
  4. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the molasses mixture.
  5. Spread the batter into a greased 15 x 10 x 1-inch baking pan.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining 2 tablespoons of sugar over the top.
  7. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned.
  8. Cool on a wire rack before cutting into bars.
