Ingredients

  • 3 1 lb. cans crushed tomatoes
  • 1 6 oz. can tomato paste
  • 1 1/2 tsp. onion powder
  • 1 Tbsp. garlic powder
  • 3 Tbsp. oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. oregano
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 1 large bay leaf
  • Optional: 1-2 lbs. Italian sausage
  • 1-2 lbs. Italian sausage

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients together in a large pot.
  2. Stir well to mix the tomato paste evenly.
  3. If using meat, slice sausage into six-inch lengths.
  4. Optionally, cut beef brisket into 2-inch wide strips for quicker cooking.
  5. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring often.
  6. Reduce heat and simmer over low heat for 2-3 hours.
  7. Longer cooking enhances flavor and tenderizes the meat.
  8. Serve over pasta and enjoy.
