Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 1/2 medium green pepper, sliced
  • 1 cup uncooked rice
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • dash of pepper
  • 1 3/4 cups hot water
  • medium onion, chopped
  • 1/2 to 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon mustard

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet or saucepan.
  2. Add chopped onion, sliced green pepper, ground beef, and uncooked rice.
  3. Stir over high heat until the ingredients are slightly browned.
  4. Add tomato sauce, hot water, salt, pepper, mustard, and chili powder if desired, then mix well.
  5. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  6. Cover tightly and simmer for 25 minutes until rice is cooked and flavors meld.
