Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa
  • 1 cup sifted flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 1/2 cups diced apples
  • 1/2 cup nuts

Instructions

  1. Mix together all the ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Spread the mixture evenly in a greased 9 x 13 inch pan.
  3. Bake in a moderate oven at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes.
  4. Cool slightly after baking.
  5. Cut into squares and sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
