Spicy Beef Puffs

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup onions
  • 1/2 cup green bell peppers chopped
  • 1/4 cup celery chopped
  • 2 each garlic cloves minced
  • 1/2 pound ground beef, lean
  • 1 tablespoon curry powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon thyme
  • 3 ounces tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup green olives stuffed, chopped
  • 1 each hot chili peppers canned, seeded, chopped
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 pound phyllo (filo) pastry sheets

Instructions

  1. Saute onion, green pepper, celery, garlic, and ground beef together until beef is brown.
  2. Drain.
  3. Add curry powder and saute 5 more minutes.
  4. Add seasoned salt, pepper, thyme, tomato paste, olives and hot pepper, and simmer, covered for 30 minutes.
  5. Cool.
  6. Melt butter over low heat.
  7. Unroll phyllo dough and cut into 1 1/2 inch strips.
  8. Keep dough under a damp towel so that it doesn't dry out.
  9. Take out one piece at a time and pain it with melted butter.
  10. Place one teaspoonful of meat mixture at end of dough strip and fold corner over.
  11. Continue folding loke flag retaining triangular shape.
  12. Brush outside of triangle with butter.
  13. Repeat with remaining dough and filling.
  14. Chill puffs one hour or more covered with plastic wrap.
  15. Bake in preheated oven at 425F (220C) for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden.
  16. These are quite spicy and good with drinks.
