St. Louis Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups chocolate chips
  • 3 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 4 egg whites
  • 1 prepared yellow cake or pound cake
  • 1/2 pint heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Put chocolate chips, sugar, water, and beaten egg yolks in the top of a double boiler.
  2. Stir over heat until thick and melted.
  3. Remove from heat and cool slightly.
  4. After it has cooled, fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites.
  5. Spread the chocolate mixture over slices of prepared yellow cake or pound cake.
  6. Top with whipped, sweetened heavy cream before serving.
