  • 1/2 cup chopped red pepper
  • 1 package fresh or frozen wonton wrappers or egg roll wrappers

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Blot cooked sausage dry, then combine with grated Cheddar cheese, grated Monterey Jack cheese, salad dressing, sliced ripe olives, and chopped red pepper.
  3. Lightly grease muffin tins and press one wonton or egg roll wrapper (or a cut fourth of one) into each cup.
  4. Brush the wrappers with vegetable oil.
  5. Bake for 5 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Remove from tins and place on a baking sheet.
  7. Fill each with the sausage mixture.
  8. Bake for another 5 minutes until bubbly and golden.

Tips & Substitutions

For added flavor, consider mixing in some spices like garlic powder or onion powder into the sausage mixture. You can substitute the sausage with ground turkey or a meat alternative for a lighter option. If you prefer a bit of heat, add diced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce. Using wonton wrappers instead of egg roll wrappers will yield a crispier texture, perfect for these appetizers.

Serving Suggestions

These star appetizers are perfect for parties or game day gatherings. Serve them alongside a fresh vegetable platter and a dip like ranch or blue cheese for a delightful contrast. They also pair beautifully with Hanky Panky(Appetizer) for a varied appetizer spread. A light salad or fruit platter can be a refreshing side to balance the richness of the appetizers.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place the appetizers on a baking sheet and warm them in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes or until heated through. Avoid microwaving, as it can make the wrappers soggy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make these appetizers ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the sausage mixture and fill the wrappers a few hours in advance. Just cover them and refrigerate until you are ready to bake. This way, you can save time when entertaining guests.

What can I substitute for the cheeses?

If you're looking for alternatives, you can use any melty cheese such as Gouda or Pepper Jack for a different flavor profile. For a dairy-free version, look for plant-based cheese options that melt well.

Can I freeze these appetizers?

Absolutely! You can freeze the unbaked filled wrappers. Just place them in a single layer on a baking sheet until frozen, then transfer them to a freezer bag. Bake them directly from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
