Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 15 oz. can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 8 slices white bread
  • 1 cup shredded Mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, beat eggs with a fork or whisk until blended.
  2. Add tomato sauce, water, oregano, basil, salt, and garlic powder to the eggs; stir to combine.
  3. Grease an 8 or 9-inch square baking dish.
  4. Arrange 4 slices of bread in the dish.
  5. Pour half of the tomato mixture over the bread.
  6. Sprinkle with half of the shredded Mozzarella cheese.
  7. Repeat the layers with remaining bread, tomato mixture, and cheese.
  8. Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on top.
  9. Cover the dish and let stand for at least 1 hour or refrigerate overnight.
  10. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  11. Bake the strata for 45 to 55 minutes, until puffed and browned.
  12. Serve immediately.
