Strawberry Scharm is a delightful layered cake featuring tender vanilla sponge filled with fresh strawberries and whipped cream, perfect for special occasions or a sweet summer treat.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 4 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 egg whites
  • 1/2 cup sugar

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and sugar together and add beaten egg yolks.
  2. Add milk, vanilla, and dry ingredients to the mixture.
  3. Divide the batter evenly into two greased layer cake pans.
  4. Beat 4 egg whites stiff with 1/2 cup sugar.
  5. Spread the beaten egg whites over the dough in the pans and sprinkle with chopped walnuts.
  6. Bake for 25 minutes in a 350° to 375°F oven.
  7. Allow the cakes to cool, then spread sweetened, mashed or sliced strawberries between the layers.
  8. Cover the assembled cake with whipped cream before serving.
