Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 4 cups sifted flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Scald the milk and let it cool to lukewarm.
  2. Sprinkle yeast on warm water and add to the milk mixture.
  3. Cream butter and sugar together.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition.
  5. Combine flour and salt.
  6. Alternately add yeast mixture, milk, and flour to the creamed butter and sugar, beating until smooth.
  7. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
  8. Punch down the dough with 25 vigorous strokes.
  9. Spread the dough into a well-greased tube pan.
  10. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 35 to 40 minutes.
  11. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 40 minutes.
