Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 cup Wesson oil
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup cocoa
  • 1 1/2 cups hot water
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

Instructions

  1. Beat eggs and sugar together in a mixing bowl.
  2. Add Wesson oil and mix well.
  3. Sift the flour, baking powder, soda, and salt into the mixture.
  4. Mix the cocoa powder and hot water together in a separate bowl.
  5. Add the cocoa and water mixture to the batter and combine thoroughly.
  6. Stir in vanilla extract.
  7. Pour the batter into a greased baking pan.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cake to cool, then frost as desired.
